The range of applications for stainless bar steel is very diverse: For example, it is used to make parts for mechanical engineering and building structures, as well as in shipbuilding and the chemical industry.
The surface of stainless bar steel is usually freed from scale and is also further machined for most applications. We supply corrosion-resistant bar steel in various grades:
- Martensitic grades such as 1.4057 are hardenable. For high strength, they can be subjected to a tempering treatment. However, the corrosion resistance of these materials is rather low.
- Austenitic grades such as 1.4404 show high corrosion resistance and excellent toughness, even at extremely low temperatures. However, due to their chemical composition, they cannot be hardened. Their tensile strength is therefore rather low.
- Duplex materials such as 1.4462 have very high corrosion resistance and medium strength. In common areas of application, they are permanently resistant to seawater.
