Nitriding steel

Nitriding steel is an alloy tempering steel. Nitrides are formed by alloying with aluminium, vanadium or chromium. This gives the nitriding steel its typical, extremely high surface hardness and very good wear resistance.

Nitriding steel is ideally suited for applications with high loads on the surfaces. Nitriding steel is tough on the inside and corrosion-resistant on the outside. The tempered components are ideal, for example, for the production of machining spindles, cylinders and extrusion tools.

Nitriding steel usually has a medium carbon content to achieve good tempering results. In addition, the nitriding layer significantly increases the corrosion resistance of the material.
