C60R

Unalloyed rolled steel for quenching and tempering according to DIN EN 10083/DIN EN ISO 683.

Often used for force-transmitting parts with increased stresses, such as shafts, axles or screws, where higher strength is of primary importance. Due to the high quenching hardness, a very wear-resistant surface can also be achieved. Due to its high carbon content, C60E is difficult to weld. The re-sulphurised “R” variant ensures more favourable machinability, but with a less favourable degree of purity than the almost analogous “E” variant. In some cases, double certification of C60E/R takes place.
