Unalloyed rolled steel for quenching and tempering according to DIN EN 10083/DIN EN ISO 683 or forged according to DIN EN 10250.
Often used for force-transmitting parts with increased stresses, such as shafts, axles or screws, where higher strength is of primary importance. Due to the high quenching hardness, a very wear-resistant surface can also be achieved. Due to its high carbon content, C60E is difficult to weld. The steel variant “E” ensures a more favourable degree of purity, but with somewhat less favourable machinability compared to the almost analogous “R” variant. In some cases, double certification of C60E/R takes place.
