Unalloyed rolled steel for quenching and tempering according to DIN EN 10083/DIN EN ISO 683 or in bright condition according to DIN EN 10277.
Often used for force-transmitting parts with medium stresses, such as shafts, axles or screws, where moderate strength is required together with a certain degree of toughness. Due to its increased carbon content, C35E is difficult to weld. The steel variant “E” ensures a more favourable degree of purity, but with somewhat less favourable machinability compared to the almost analogous “R” variant. In some cases, double certification of C35E/R takes place.
