C15R

Unalloyed case-hardening steel, rolled according to DIN EN 10084/DIN EN ISO 683 in untreated version (+AR/+U).

Use for general applications in vehicle and machine parts such as geared parts, pins, rods, spacers, axles where a rather low strength but high toughness is required. Due to its low hardness and strength, C15E can be cold formed to a certain extent. Case hardening of the components, in which carbon is introduced into the edge area, makes it possible to achieve a relatively hard and wear-resistant surface with a tough core.

Due to the low carbon content, C15E is very easy to weld. The re-sulphurised “R” variant ensures more favourable machinability, but with a less favourable degree of purity than the almost analogous “E” variant. In some cases, double certification of C15E/R takes place.
