25CrMo4

Alloy rolled steel for quenching and tempering according to DIN EN 10083/DIN EN ISO 683.

Often used for force-transmitting parts with high stresses, such as crankshafts, steering knuckles, turbine parts, where, in addition to increased strength, very good toughness properties are required even at low temperatures. The tempered condition ensures defined mechanical properties compared to an untreated variant in accordance with the standard. In addition, this results in a more homogeneous microstructure throughout the production batch.

Due to its alloy composition with a moderate carbon content, 25CrMo4 is generally easy to weld. If the focus is on machining, the very similar but re-sulphurised variant 25CrMoS4 should be considered. In some cases, double certification of both variants 25CrMo(S)4 takes place.
