Material 1.1730, also known as C45, is an unalloyed tool steel which is commonly used for components and tools under low stress. It is characterised by good machinability, wear resistance and toughness, but it is not corrosion-resistant and has poor weldability. It is a cold work steel that is often used in its as-delivered condition, but it can also be hardened; however, a low hardening depth must be taken into account.
